JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind (Golden Wind for short) was aired on October 5, 2018. The third’s Jotaro Kujo was jailed for fighting. And the fourth’s Josuke Higashikata went on fighting because his hair was ridiculed. And the hero Giorno Giovanna also took the “golden spirit” that did not lose to the predecessors. He steals money from visiting tourists in Italy and bribing the police for not having a license. However, Giorno, doing these despicable activities, will also offer his own gentleness to the children who are coveting in front of the ice cream shop.
What kind of child is Giorno? What changes will the anime make in the adaptation? Yuki Omori, the producer of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, will answer questions for us.
Story
First of all, Omori says that the charm of Golden Wind is telling the story of young homeless finding their own goals in an abused environment. The audience would see mourning and powerful consciousness from their protagonists.
In this work, the main creative team headed by Omori came to Italy to take the field. Although Omori couldn’t go all over, most of the scenes in the anime were searched thoroughly. Leaded by the parking building near the airport, a lot of art backgrounds are based in the field of view as a reference design.
However, the main purpose of field material is not to pursue the authenticity. Instead, they want to present the Italian feeling through the sky, the sea, and the wind. From Omori’s perspective, if everyone can feel the atmosphere of Italy from the anime, it would be the honor of the production team.
Production Team
In this work, it’s the first time for three director production system. The last series’s director Naokatsu Tsuda create Golden Wind with two new directors Yasuhiro Kimura and Takashi Takahashi. Omori says that the addition of two new directors, Kimura and Takasaka, also make the entire production team look young and energetic like the protagonist team. These two are full of their own personality in the creation of the works. The three respective players reflect their own unique characteristics, hoping that the audience can feel special freshness.
The anime’s character design was the famous Key Animator Takahiro Kishidas. Kishida also participated in anime Baoh, another work from JoJo’s author Araki Hirohiko. At the stage of the sketch, the original enchanting performance was vividly expressed. Omori believes everyone will agree once they see the visual picture of the anime.
Opening
Episode 1’s opening “Giorno buy ice cream for the children” and other original shots also attract the manga fan’s attention. This is the idea from director Tsuda. He think it better to keep the subject directly as in manga. The most important thing is to convey Italian style to the audience through some original shots. Then show what kind of role Giorno is. Of course, these are all created based on the original. Adding these original shots also strengthens the atmosphere of the anime. And some original scenes will be added in the future too.
Joining the “stealing money from a visitor’s wallet” shot is also a way to show the character of Giorno. Giorno is not a “justice guy”. However, he will not bully the weak and the female. Besides, he will not make such ugly things as child abuse. When in crisis, he will calmly judge. The opponents, fighting with him, are not justice as well. They are all gangsters. In this way, he chooses to enter the organization to defeat this group of gangsters. Finally, he climb to the top of the organization and become a “rogue superstar”.
Expectation
Finally, Omori says that there are still many things to watch in the future. The protagonists are not living in a good environment. They have a cruel past and live a despicable life. However, after meeting Giorno, their life will undergo a tremendous transformation. Moved by Giorno’s dreams and enlightenment, they will find and set foot on the path of their life. The path of each character is full of drama. Omori believes that the audience will have their own feelings after watching the anime. And he hopes everyone can see the end.
