For Miki and Kamachi, they often discussed how to continue animating the work, as well as what content to anime. It has been eight years since Season 2. They even thought about knocking out the first two seasons and animating from scratch. However, the audience may still want to see the original Old Testament (the 1st to 22nd volume of the original novel). He decided to continue to do Season 3, following Season 2 which was 8 years ago.
After all, the end of Season 2 stayed right in the defeating of Vento of the Front in God’s Right Seat. The remaining members have not yet been defeated. So Season 3 chose to continue from the 14th volume.
How The Character Was Born
Kamachi praised the long shots in the anime’s OP, and felt like being sucked into that lens. When the first season of the anime broadcast in 2008, the story was set in the near future. As a result, the style of two are different. But Miki thinks it not interesting if the style of comics and the original novel’s are too close. Since the work is based on Accelerator, it will inevitably make Accelerator more attractive.
Speaking of Accelerator, his appearance is because of the third volume of the original novel’s heroine Mikoto Misaka. Kamachi felt that since the heroine must have the weak side for the protagonist to protect. But the only one to make LV5 like Mikoto Misaka to be afraid is probably the No.1 of the school.
Accelerator Character Design
Kamachi think it may be better to be slender but invincible instead of using a tall, muscular and firm image to render powerful. The contents of the first and second volume are more magic elements. But in the third volume, he wanted to focus on the scientific Academy City. The positioning of the character Accelerator is also in line with the content.
Miki said that when Kamachi first outlined the novel, he positioned Accelerator as the enemy of Mikoto Misaka. Kazuma Miki had just graduated from the University of Science at that time. And a role of operating vector made him feel so excited at night to fail to sleep well.
When sending the confirmation email about the schedule to the original Illustrator Haimura, he accidentally sent the related character design requirements of Accelerator. Not long later, Haimura attached the design sketch of Accelerator to the confirming email of the schedule. And this sketch was already closed to the finished image design of Accelerator. For Miki, that’s really amazing that the design sketch was handed over so quickly even if the official request for posting has not yet been sent. For Haimura, Accelerator is also an inspiring role for him.
Mikoto Misaka
As for the character Mikoto Misaka, this role is a symbol of Academy City. The protagonist Toma’s existence is more complicated. Although it is a student of Academy City, his ability is difficult to explain. At that time, Kamachi thought about the “Imagine Breaker” ability as to block something in a cool way. Finally he came up with the idea of Railgun. Plus that the electrical’s applying range is also widely. He finally pin the role of Mikoto Misaka. And corresponding to her strong ability, her spirit is weak.
Mikoto Misaka only shows a few pages in the first volume. But her popularity was far more than Miki’s imagination. Back then, Miki thought about popular characters should be the same role as Shana in “Shakugan no Shana”. But Mikoto Misaka’s popularity was unexpected. So in order to catch the market, Miki proposed to Kamachi that the third volume took Mikoto Misaka as the main heroine.
